Description: A physically demanding, comprehensive program dealing with the necessary knowledge and skills relative to rescue procedures needed for self-rescue. Emphasis will be placed on search techniques, communications, accountability/ location and self-rescue procedures. Students must be in good physical condition to successfully perform all practical exercises. Students must conform to the PA State Fire Academy’s Facial Hair Policy that requires a student be clean shaven except for a neatly trimmed moustache.

Training Audience: Interior qualified firefighters wishing to add to their basic training knowledge and skills.

Prerequisite(s): Interior firefighting certification. Recommended: Rapid Intervention Team, Structural Fire Rescue, and Incident Command System. Student must be physically able to crawl, climb and descend ladders, slide on rope, and support own body weight while hanging by arms.

Course Length: 16-hours

Certification: Pennsylvania State Fire Academy certificate will be issued after successful completion of this course.

Textbook: None

Equipment Needs: Pen / pencil, note-taking material. Full Turnout Gear - including SCBA and spare cylinder.
