Description: Fighting a fire in the basement of a structure presents its own unique set of challenges for firefighters. This course will review the hazards associated with basement fires. Utilizing classroom presentation and engaging in group discussions, the dangers associated with basement fire attack will be reviewed. These discussions will address, building construction, access and methods of fire attack. Practical skills will be done by the student in a variety of scenarios that involve a basement fire. Some of these skills performed will be utilizing power tools, hand tools and hoselines. Students will conduct fire attack in simulated basement rooms. Training Audience: Qualified firefighters wishing to add to their basic training knowledge and skills. Prerequisites: One of the following, NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 Certification, PA Sate Fire Academy Interior Firefighter with Live Fire certificate, or Completion of the PA Sate Fire Academy Structural Burn Session Certificate. Length of Course: 8 hours Textbook: Couse materials will be provided in class Student Equipment/Supplies Needs: Notebook and writing instrument, Full set of NFPA approved structural firefighting turnout gear.
