Description: This course will provide the student with a review and application of the techniques used in safe firefighting practices in an actual fire environment. Emphasis is placed on safety for both interior and exterior operations. The goal of this course is to enable the student to safely attack and extinguish an interior fire in a structure as a member of a single line hose team.

At the end of the course the student should be able to proficiently demonstrate:

  • The use of protective clothing and S.C.B.A. by safely operating in a live fire environment.

 

  • The use of hose lines and nozzles by successfully attacking and extinguishing a live fire in the interior of a structure using a direct attack, an indirect attack, and a combination attack as appropriate.

  • The knowledge of fire behavior by properly placing hose lines to initiate an attack with a maximum of effect while maintaining a safe position of hose crews.

  • The knowledge of basic ventilation procedures by using a fog stream to affect forced ventilation after knock down is accomplished.

  • The knowledge of safety procedures by working from a safe position, working in pairs, maintaining contact with his team, and adhering to personnel accountability system.

Training Audience: Fire personnel

Prerequisite(s): Completion of ELIF, EBM, or Fire I

Course Length: 16-hours

Certification: Pa State Fire Academy Certificate will be issued upon successful completion of this course.

Requirements: Full turnout gear including SCBA with spare cylinder, long pants, socks, long sleeve shirt that is cotton or 50-50. No mesh or wicking material.
