Description: Through written and practical examinations the Firefighter I candidate will successfully complete and pass both exams in order to receive certification.

Training Audience: Students who have met the necessary prerequisites to be able to challenge the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy Firefighter I Certification written exam and practical skill stations.

Prerequisite(s): Minimum Level Requirement:

• Current Pennsylvania State Fire Academy approved CPR and First Aid certification (see PSFA application for exact courses allowed to meet this prerequisite),
• Current Hazardous Materials Operations Certificate or Refresher Certificate (dated within one (1) year of testing date),
• Structural Burn Session, or Interior Firefighter (ELIF) with live fire designation, and
• Candidate must be 17 years-of-age prior to test dates.

Application Requirements: Completed applications must be received at the test site (CCPSTC) three weeks (21 days) prior to the written test. Applications received after this deadline or incomplete applications will NOT be accepted for testing.

Course Length: 12-hours

Certification: ProBoard Firefighter I certificate will be issued from the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy upon successful completion and passing of the written exam and practical skills testing.

Equipment Needs: Pen / pencil, note-taking material.

Required Equipment: Full turnout gear (FTOG), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and spare SCBA cylinder.
