Description: The Lethal Weapons Training Act 235 provides certification to privately employed agents to carry a lethal weapon. A lethal weapon is any firearm, device, instrument, material, or any other substance that is capable of bringing about great bodily harm or death. The Lethal Weapons Training Act incorporates education and training as part of being a certified agent. Students taking this class should already be proficient in using a firearm—as this IS NOT a beginner’s course for new shooters. The purpose of this course is to develop knowledge of the critical nature of the use of force as applied to Certified agents. Justification of use of force in the protection of life and property will be included. The student will learn safe handling of firearms and fire a familiarization course with a 12-gauge shotgun and meet qualification standards with a handgun. This course consists of 22 hours of classroom instruction, four hours of armed and unarmed defense, and 14 hours of firearms training. Participants must successfully pass a written examination on the classroom program and a firearms qualification on the range. Students must have the ability to safely participate in the firearms course required for Lethal Weapons, Act 235 certification. One of the time stages of this course requires kneeling and rising unassisted. NOTE: Do not bring firearms to the classroom portions of this course. Please note, the certification is not one of attendance, but of successful completion. To repeat failed portions of the 40-hour class (academic or firearms) is $200 and the repeated class must be completed at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus. Training Audience: Privately employed agents required to carry a lethal weapon. Prerequisite(s): None Required Equipment: PSP approval letter if not emailed already, a handgun, a sturdy holster, 200 – 250 rounds of ammunition, hearing protection, eye protection, and baseball hat.
