Description: Individuals are required to successfully complete a recertification course every five (5) years. This course consists of 3-hours of classroom instruction and 5-hours of firearms training/qualification.

The Lethal Weapons Training Act 235 provides certification to privately employed agents to carry a lethal weapon. A lethal weapon is any firearm, device, instrument, material, or any other substance that is capable of bringing about great bodily harm or death. The Lethal Weapons Training Act incorporates education and training as part of being a certified agent.

The purpose of this course is to provide an update and refresher of those sections of the PA Crimes Code which are most applicable to certified agents. The student will learn how a pistol, revolver, and shotgun operate and safe handling techniques. The student will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the use of a handgun and safe handling and firing of a 12-gauge shotgun.

NOTE: Do not bring firearms to the classroom portions of this course.

Note: The certification is not one of attendance, but of successful completion. To repeat failed portions of the 8-hour class (academic or firearms) is $100 and the repeated class must be completed at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus.

Training Audience: Privately employed agents required to carry a lethal weapon.

Required Equipment: PSP approval letter if not emailed already, a handgun, a sturdy holster, 200 – 250 rounds of ammunition, hearing protection, eye protection, and baseball hat.
