Description: This Course is designed to provide an in depth understanding of the minds of neurodiverse individuals. Areas the course will cover is executive functioning, theory of mind, and weak central coherence theory and how it connects to common duties as a first responder. Participants will evaluate how individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) navigate a neurotypical world, and how first responders can meet them in their world. Each section of the course looks at different interactions and encounters first responders may face with neurodiverse individuals. Participants will practice new strategies to make the encounters safe and productive to the task at hand. This training will build opportunities to practice through scenarios and case study strategies and tools that could be used when encountering, working with, or serving neurodiverse individuals.

 

Training Audience: All first responders

Course Length: 4 hours
