Additional Info Emergency Vehicle Driver Training Course Prerequisite

Description: The penalty for not adequately training an emergency vehicle driver also carries legal consequences, both criminally and civilly, for the emergency service organization and its personnel. This combined course of classroom lecture and practical exercises created by VFIS prepares operators to become better professional emergency vehicle operators when it involves their own personal safety of their crew, their patient, and the community they are serving. Proper driving techniques that include the mental as well as the physical aspects of the driving task. The program stresses the long-term impact of a collision involving an emergency vehicle on the emergency vehicle driver, the emergency service organization and the community.

All students enrolled in the course must fill out the apparatus competency form (see link by additional info. for form) and have it signed by one of the officers. This form must be turned in on the first day of class.

Training Audience: Emergency Services Personnel

Prerequisite(s): 18 years of age by the first day of class, a familiarization of apparatus the student will be taking through the competency course

Equipment Needs: Note taking material, VFIS University account, and student must be able to provide an apparatus on the day of the competency course (last day of training).

Pennsylvania Department of Health Continuing Education Hours: Lecture portion: 8 hrs (EMSVO/Other), Competency Course: 4 hrs (EMSVO/Other)
