Description: The safety officers’ responsibilities fall into two clear cut categories: those associated with responding at the incident scene, and those associated with managing the day to day affairs of the department. The Incident Safety Officer (ISO) course is focused on the incident and the role the safety officer plays as part of the command staff. The target audience is company officers (COs) who are experienced in firefighter safety issues and are familiar with an Incident Command System, hazardous materials management, and related emergency operations. The program provides the student with the decision-making process and skills required to recognize unsafe acts and conditions and take appropriate corrective actions Upon successful completion, the student shall:
Training Audience: Company officers or veteran fire fighters that are current safety officers who want to gain more knowledge or refresh their knowledge as a safety officer; or those company officers who want to take the next step in becoming the safety officer for their department. Prerequisite(s): Incident Command System and Resource Management for the Fire Service (ICSRMFS), NICS-FS or NICS-EMS or Incident Command System and trained to the Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations level. Course Length: 16-hours Certification: National Fire Academy certification will be applied for at the conclusion of the course.
