Description: This 16-hour course will equip individuals new to the fire service with the knowledge, skills, and abilities for their future fire career. The course will consist of lecture and practical’s consisting of:

  • History & mission
  • Firefighter safety
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Tool identification
  • Communications
  • Work areas
  • Backing apparatus

This course is the first module of the PA State Fire Academy’s Entry Level Fire Training Curriculum.

Training Audience: Anyone who wishes to start a firefighter career

Prerequisite(s): Must be 14 years old.

Age 14 to 18, students must possess proper work permit from your sending school district. They must be turned on the first day of training. Earlier submissions are ok.

Course Length: 16-hours

Textbook: Fire Fighting manual and skills book, will be provided

Equipment Needs: Note-taking material and full PPE (helmet, gloves, turnout coat and pants, boots, protective hood, and safety glasses/goggles)
