The DUI Detection & Standardized Field Sobriety Testing course will train officers in recognizing and interpreting signs associated with impaired driving. This course will not only improve the student’s knowledge and skills in apprehending the impaired driver, but it will also certify them as practitioners in the nationally recognized Standardized Field Sobriety Testing battery including Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus ("HGN"), Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand. This course includes classroom lecture, an expanded two-day alcohol workshop allowing practice with actual impaired persons, and a block of instruction from current trial attorneys within the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.

To close out the SFST training on Thursday, March 5th, our SFST Instructors and the PA DUI Association will teach the PennDOT Sobriety Checkpoint Certification Class, in which you will receive an additional certification. This training allows the officer to participate in sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols throughout Chester County. Officers will be trained in the Chester County Impaired Driving Program’s policies and procedures for both impaired driving checkpoints and roving enforcement patrols. Please note that class is ONLY for officers who have just completed their SFST Training, this is not a refresher class to recertify.

Please note that you MUST have permission from your Chief or agency training coordinator prior to being accepted into this class. Due to the limited number of seats available for this training, only one officer per department will be initially accepted.
