Fireground Support ELFS (EL-26)

Course Description: This 48-hour entry-level course provides new firefighters with a solid foundation in the core principles of the fire service. It introduces the history, mission, organizational structure, and culture of the profession while emphasizing the importance of health, safety, and professional conduct. Students begin developing essential skills through instruction in fundamental fireground concepts including water supply, ropes and knots, fire hose, SCBA care and maintenance, fire extinguishers, and fire behavior.

  • NIMS ICS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System.
  • NIMS ICS-700: National Incident Management System.
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness.
  • Traffic Incident Management (TIM).
  • Enrollment into ACADIS platform.

This course is the first module of the PA State Fire Academy’s Entry Level Fire Training Curriculum. Throughout this program, the students will have the opportunity to test for NFPA Pro Board testing for Hazmat Awareness, and the new NFPA 1010 Fireground Support certification.

Prerequisite (s): Must be 14 years old.

Age 14 to 18, students must possess a proper work permit from your school district. They must be turned on the first day of training. Earlier submissions are ok.

Equipment Needs: Note-taking material and full PPE (helmet, gloves, turnout coat and pants, boots, protective hood, ear plugs and safety glasses/goggles. Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (for inspection, care and refill- not IDLH entry),1 piece of ½ inch utility rope for knot typing that is 15 feet in length. A Fundamentals of Firefighter Skills (5th Ed.) – Jones & Bartlett Student manual will be issued at the beginning of the class and can be used throughout the entry program.
