Firefighter 1 Training ELFF1 (EL-26)

Course Description: This 88-hour program builds on the foundational skills learned in ELFS and prepares students for Firefighter I certification in accordance with NFPA 1010. Students will receive instruction and practice across a broad range of fireground functions. Topics include the safe use self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA); ground ladder operations for access, rescue, and ventilation; and an understanding of building construction as it relates to fire behavior and structural collapse. Training also covers forcible entry techniques, coordinated ventilation, search and rescue procedures, and hose line deployment for fire attack. Students apply suppression tactics in both interior and exterior scenarios, develop firefighter survival techniques for emergency situations, and learn salvage, overhaul, and property conservation methods. The program concludes with modules on firefighter rehabilitation and wildland firefighting fundamentals, ensuring readiness for incident operations.

This course is the second module of the PA State Fire Academy’s Entry Level Fire Training Curriculum. Throughout this program, the student will have the opportunity to train and test for CPR/First Aid, Hazmat Operations and take the NFPA Pro Board exams for Hazmat Operations, and Firefighter 1.
