Description: The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course teaches prehospital providers how to respond to, and care for, patients in a civilian tactical environment to decrease preventable deaths. The following topics are covered: hemorrhage control; surgical airway control and needle decompression; creating a casualty collection point (CCP); strategies for treating wounded responders in threatening environments; management of shock; prevention and treatment of eye injuries; caring for pediatric patients; and techniques for dragging and carrying victims to safety. Training Audience: Prehospital providers Prerequisite(s): Students must bring a completed course pretest. Pretests will be sent to you via email by the course coordinator. Students will need to bring the kit and gear they utilize in the field. Course Length: 20-hours Certification: Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion, a wallet card recognizing them as TECC providers for 4 years, and 16 hours of CAPCE credit. Textbook: Students should have a copy of the current PHTLS Military Provider manual available for class. Students should have access to this provider manual to use before, during, and after the course. You can purchase the PHTLS Military 8th Ed. manual from Longwood Fire Company if needed. Equipment Needs: Pen / pencil, note-taking material. Pennsylvania Department of Health Continuing Education Hours: 18 hours of CE/Contact hours are available for EMT’s, and Paramedics.
