Description: This course is designed to enable the non-technical emergency worker to acquire skills in the use of mitigation. The course provides training in how to perform mitigation activities fundamental to reducing and eliminating long-term risk from hazards. It addresses the important roles of the emergency program manager (or other local government representative) in mitigation: motivator, coordinator, and monitor in local implementation of the National Mitigation Strategy.

Training Audience: Local, county and state emergency management personnel responsible for mitigation planning.

Prerequisite(s): FEMA Independent Study Program (IS) 393.a course, Introduction to Hazard Mitigation, is strongly recommended prior to enrollment.

Course Length: 21 hours

Certification: Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency via TRAIN PA

Textbook: FEMA G-393 Mitigation for Emergency Managers Course Student Manual. Instructor Guide and PowerPoint provided on CD by PEMA.

As course material is now provided through electronic means, it is highly recommended students bring a computer, capable of reading a USB flash drive, to the course.
