Description: This combined enhanced course will provide both an awareness-level of information and skills as it pertains to vehicle rescue incidents as well as operations-level of information and skills as they pertain to vehicle rescue incidents.

Awareness topics will include general vehicle rescue function/operation; incident management of the vehicle accident/rescue incident; vehicle anatomy, design, and construction; recognition and control of hazards relative to a vehicle accident/rescue incident; and the tools and equipment used at a vehicle accident/rescue incident.

Operations topics will include: incident management; tools/equipment; vehicle anatomy/design; hazard control, patient access, care, and packaging; disentanglement; extrication and termination.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be eligible to complete the PA Joint Rescue Program Basic Vehicle Rescue examination. Additionally, this course will prepare the student to challenge the IFSAC/Pro-Board national certification as a Vehicle Rescue Technician Level 1 in accordance with NFPA 1006.

 

Training Audience: Those who desire training in vehicle rescue operations and techniques or those that wish to enhance previously learned skills.

Prerequisite(s): 17 years old by first day of class and Hazardous Materials Awareness or above.

Course Length: Awareness 24 hours / Operations 20 hours

Certification: Pennsylvania State Fire Academy, Pennsylvania Department of Health Vehicle Joint Rescue Program, Vehicle Rescue Awareness (NVRA) and Vehicle Rescue Operations (NVRO) certificates will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

Textbook: Will be issued in class.

Equipment Needs: Pen / pencil, note-taking material. Full turn out gear to include helmet, extrication/leather gloves, foot wear, and eye protection.

Pennsylvania Department of Health Continuing Education Hours: Awareness: 1 hour Clinical Patient Care; 23 hours Other. Operations: 17 hours Clinical Patient Care; 3 hours Other.
