Description: This 16-hour, physically demanding class will provide students with the most updated theories and techniques needed to mitigate many firefighter emergencies, and to effect the rescue of downed firefighters.  Students will spend the first day learning skills and techniques to overcome many firefighter emergencies to include the following:

  • Downed firefighter assessment
  • Downed firefighter packaging and removal
  • Low air emergencies
  • Entanglements
  • Below grade rescues
  • Upper floor/roof rescues

 A full day will be spent performing multiple downed firefighter scenarios of various degrees of difficulty.  These scenarios are real world and are based off of past line of duty deaths and near misses.  The scenarios are designed to tie in the skills learned with the tactical decision making of the individual and to also increase the teamwork of the Rapid Intervention Crew in a "real world" environment with stressors and challenges that can be expected on the fire ground.

Training Audience: Prerequisite(s): Clean shaven, Have one of the three EBM, ELIF or Firefighter 1

Course Length: 16-hour

Certification: Pennsylvania State Fire Academy Certificate (4-hour RIT ); Chester County Certificate (16-hour Crew Exercise)

Equipment Needs: Pen / pencil, note-taking material. Full turnout gear including SCBA with spare cylinder.
