Description: Through written and practical examinations the Firefighter II candidate will successfully complete and pass both exams in order to receive certification.

Training Audience: Students who have met the necessary prerequisites to be able to challenge the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy Firefighter I Certification written exam and practical skill stations.

Prerequisite(s):

    • Candidate must be 18 years-of-age prior to test date, and
    • ICS-100, ICS-200, and
    • National Firefighter I Certification, and
    • Hazardous Materials Operations Certificate or Operations Refresher Certificate (MUST be dated within one (1) year prior to the certification testing date), and

    • PA Vehicle Rescue Operations Level certification, or
    • PA DOH Vehicle Rescue Technician certification, or
    • NFPA 1006 Pro-Board or IFSAC Vehicle Machinery Level 1 certification, or
    • Vehicle Technician Level 1 certification.

Students must conform to the PA State Fire Academy’s Facial Hair Policy that requires a student be clean shaven except for a neatly trimmed moustache.

Application Requirements: Completed applications must be received at the test site (CCPSTC) three weeks (21 days) prior to the written test.  Applications received after this deadline or incomplete applications will NOT be accepted for testing.

The following need to be completed as part of the Firefighter II Application and MUST be submitted with the completed application on or before the application deadline:

  • Completed Incident Report
  • Completed Residential Safety Plan
  • Completed Commercial Safety Inspection, Pre-Incident Plan including a plot plan and a floor plan, and incident response assignments to this commercial building (NOTE: fire houses or ambulance stations no longer qualify for the commercial building assignment.)

Course Length: 12-hours

Certification: Pro-Board Firefighter II certificate will be issued from the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy upon successful completion and passing of the written exam and practical skills testing.

Equipment Needs: Pen / pencil, note-taking material. Required Equipment: Full turnout gear (FTOG), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus and spare SCBA cylinder.
